"But Mr. Paul Ryan is widely portrayed as an intellectual leader within the G.O.P., with special expertise on matters of debt and deficits. So the revelation that he literally doesn’t know the first thing about the debt crises currently in progress is, as I said, interesting — and not in a good way."

I have no idea if Ryan is an intellectual (I like to think that if you are an intellectual you cannot be a Republican) but even if he is, the only way to appeal to the Teabaggers is to appeal to their delusions.

Global warming means unpredictable weather

The record rains throughout the state have already caused major damage, prompting evacuations in some areas and shutting down busy freeways. Forecasters predict that this December is likely to become the wettest on record for the region. In less than a week, downtown Los Angeles has already had a third of its average annual rainfall.

Combine this with unprecedented snowfall in Europe (and speaking for myself, a very dry summer here in New England, particularly Massachusetts) means that while temperature rise will be less noticeable, crazy weather is what will bring the most misery.
